Rinoa had expected a number of things from this island, thanks to the warnings at the picnic, but the sentient flowers? Those had taken her by surprise.
They were adorable. They sang little songs and swayed in the wind and asked nosy questions about her love life.
"No, we broke up months ago," she explained. "The distance was too hard, since he was still at Garden. We stayed in touch, though."
A sympathetic chorus of ohhhhhhhhhhhhh's.
Who knew that flowers wanted to hear all about your ex-boyfriends?
(door and post open!)

Date: 2010-05-21 02:45 am (UTC)"And then he decided to serve the evil sorceress," he commented.
He hadn't actually noticed the flowers, yet.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 02:59 am (UTC)"He was trying to rescue me," Rinoa said easily. "What happened to you not being enemies?"
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 03:05 am (UTC)And maybe, if circumstances had been different, their positions might be reversed. Who knew?
"But he's still wrong for you."
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 03:09 am (UTC)Who? piped up one flower. Who?
Another, slightly smarter, flower fielded that question, in a low murmur.
Ohhhhhhhh, I get it!
"You're a knight, too," she reminded him. "How do you know that's not choosing poorly? Why do you think he's wrong for me, anyway?"
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 03:20 am (UTC)All of that, without a hint of irony or self-awareness.
"And I chose to be your knight because of who you are," he insisted. "Seifer just thinks the idea of being a sorceress's knight is romantic."
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 03:55 am (UTC)Seifer seemed more qualified, to her, than Zell had, but she wasn't a SeeD, so her opinion didn't count for much.
"I hope he's okay," she said, shaking her head. "He's in over his head. He doesn't think, before he acts. I guess maybe that's why he's not a SeeD, huh?"
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 04:02 am (UTC)(Not only does he not think, but he never admits his mistakes, either.)
"When he follows orders, he's qualified."
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 04:06 am (UTC)He should have expected the teasing.
"Besides, I --" She frowned, then sat up. "That's right. I'm mad at you. I was distracted by the flowers and I forgot."
No time like the present to be huffy!
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 04:16 am (UTC)If she was mad at him because he'd done something wrong, he'd fix it! He had no idea what she was mad about, though.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 04:25 am (UTC)She'd had an epiphany, the other day, and had naturally assumed that the same had occurred to him.
So ... no. She was not prepared to be mature about this.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 06:42 pm (UTC)That might be going a bit too far. Maybe. Maybe not. He should have signed up for the same classes as her.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 08:11 pm (UTC)no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 08:51 pm (UTC)(She's not making any sense. Why are people always so hard to understand?)
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 09:00 pm (UTC)Which ... almost made sense, if you could piece apart the thread of logic there.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 09:23 pm (UTC)Because he hadn't ever been here before. It was a different him, a strange half-shadow who had been here before, and not HIM. He didn't understand it, and he didn't feel like bothering.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 09:38 pm (UTC)One that ruled out any possible happy endings.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 10:02 pm (UTC)"But it hasn't happened yet, and I'm not going to LET it happen. The rules are diferent on this island."
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 10:22 pm (UTC)no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 10:56 pm (UTC)no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 11:24 pm (UTC)Leeeeet me call you sweetheart, I'm in love with you
Let me hear you whisper that you love me, too
Keep the love-light glowing in your eyes so true
Let me call you sweetheart, I'm in love with you!
You wouldn't expect a random handful of flowers to harmonize so well. He was lucky he hadn't picked all tenors.
It was very hard to keep a head of anger going while being serenaded.
"You shouldn't have," she laughed.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 11:31 pm (UTC)He glared at the flowers.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 11:43 pm (UTC)Yoooou made me love you!
I didn't want to do it!
I didn't want to do it!
"You're giving me flowers," she said, sounding triumphant. "Hard to misinterpret something like that. I think it's sweet."
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 11:47 pm (UTC)Except for the tiny little bit of him that he wouldn't admit to that DID mean it like that.
"The point is, this place is crazy."
no subject
Date: 2010-05-21 11:54 pm (UTC)Put your head on my shoulder!
Hold me in your arms, baaaaaaby
Squeeze me oh so tight, show me
That you love me, too
"This place is fun," she corrected easily. "And filled with interesting surprises. Wanna dance?"
Pressing her luck was generally a hobby, when it came to him.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-22 12:06 am (UTC)"No," he insisted. "I don't dance." And, to get away from dangerous topics like that, he jumped into the reason he stopped by. "Why weren't you at the Reserves meeting?"
no subject
Date: 2010-05-22 12:12 am (UTC)"I did go," she frowned. "I talked to someone named Zack about Scan spells and how they could be used for research. I didn't see you there. Why weren't you at the Reserves meeting?"
no subject
Date: 2010-05-22 01:00 am (UTC)And sometimes his mun was feeling off and forgot to ping in.He ducked her question and went back to his, instead. "Not that Reserves, the other one.". He shrugged. "Now that you're a sorceress, did you decide to stop being a fighter?"
no subject
Date: 2010-05-22 01:17 am (UTC)Really, considering the half-assed plans that the Forest Owls threw together, 'strategist' wasn't saying a lot.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-22 02:20 am (UTC)no subject
Date: 2010-05-22 11:20 pm (UTC)The flowers did not think this was going to end well. Should they start singing again?
"It was my idea to get the President onto our train! It would have worked if he hadn't been a decoy. I came up with it myself, because Zone and Watts and everyone else, they were just sitting around hoping someone else was going to have a plan. So I did something, instead."
Close your eyes,
Give me your hand, darling
Can you feel my h---
"Not now," she snapped, immediately feeling guilty when she saw how saddened the flowers were.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-23 02:17 am (UTC)"I didn't say you weren't better than the whole rest of your group," Squall countered. "Because you are. But the better plan would have been to just blow up the train. Easier to accomplish, less work, and more effective."
no subject
Date: 2010-05-23 02:35 am (UTC)no subject
Date: 2010-05-23 02:45 am (UTC)That was a lot of words for Squall, and he needed to take a deep breath afterwards.
Also, he was completely glossing over the part where the sorceress had taken control away from Deling, but they hadn't known that at the time of the train mission.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-23 02:50 am (UTC)Her father was head of the Galbadian military. What if someone had blown up his train, to make the same kind of point?
no subject
Date: 2010-05-23 02:57 am (UTC)Rinoa was being hopelessly naive.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-23 03:04 am (UTC)Totally a super plan, right here.
"Besides! If it was such a bad plan why did you go along with it, if it wasn't going to work? You were hired to help! That's not helping!"
no subject
Date: 2010-05-23 03:16 am (UTC)"Besides, it did work."
no subject
Date: 2010-05-23 03:20 am (UTC)Why did she have to do everything around there? If it was a bad plan, help her think up a better one! Zone wasn't going to!
It was really hard trying to run the revolution solo.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-23 03:29 am (UTC)Besides, they'd been hired to help the revolution, not be the revolution. The Forest Owls were just playing at being revolutionaries, and they weren't going to be serious about it.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-23 03:43 am (UTC)The flowers looked at each other, squeaking uncertainly.
One bravely cleared her throat and started:
Tonight you're mine, compleeeeetely
and stopped again at receiving a death glare from Rinoa.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-23 11:40 pm (UTC)He shrugged. "Ultimate responsibility still belongs to the client. SeeD is just the hired help."
no subject
Date: 2010-05-24 12:37 am (UTC)no subject
Date: 2010-05-24 01:20 am (UTC)They weren't monsters, after all.
no subject
Date: 2010-05-24 01:27 am (UTC)no subject
Date: 2010-05-24 02:33 am (UTC)SeeD got to pick and choose their battles, to always be on the right side... but even if they didn't, a job was a job. Rinoa didn't understand that, wasn't going to understand that. She was a fighter, but not a soldier.
He tried to argue an easier tack, instead. "Weren't there a lot of people who wanted to kill President Deling? He did bad things."
